Microrheology measurements on the Zetasizer Nano ZSP

Published on 15 Oct 2012

The launch of the Zetasizer Nano ZSP in was accompanied by additions to the Zetasizer software, that saw the introduction of a new microrheology measurement type. Dynamic light scattering microrheology is an optical technique that involves tracking the motion of dispersed tracer particles of known size, in a fluid, to determine the rheological properties of the sample. The update to the Zetasizer software also includes a microrheology standard operating procedure. http://www.malvern.com/en/products/me...This video describes how the Zetasizer Nano ZSP can be used to make a microrheology measurement, and the subsequent calculation of viscoelastic moduli G' and G'' and the complex viscosity of low viscosity and weakly structured complex fluids.

High-throughput protein analysis with the Zetasizer APS

Published on 14 Feb 2014

The Zetasizer APS (or Automated Plate Sampler) is a robust, simple to operate Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) instrument, perfect for protein characterization, including the detection of aggregates in protein solutions, optimization of storage conditions to avoid aggregation, and screening of small molecule libraries for aggregated compounds that could act as non-specific inhibitors. As part of a range of class-leading products from Malvern Instruments, the performance in terms of sensitivity, accuracy and repeatability is identical to the batch capabilities of the Zetasizer uV and Zetasizer Nano, but with the advantage of full automation. This means that reliable size measurements and thermal trends of proteins can be made unattended, improving productivity.

Protein characterization with the Zetasizer MicroV batch & flow mode

Published on 14 Feb 2014

The Zetasizer µV (MicroV) is a dual purpose light scattering instrument designed specifically for protein characterization, including protein aggregation. Firstly, it is a highly sensitive cuvette based dynamic light scattering instrument with the same great performance as the market leading Zetasizer Nano. Secondly, by simply changing the cell, it becomes an absolute molecular weight and size detector that can be added to any Size Exclusion Chromatography system (such as the Viscotek TDAmax).

Malvern Archimedes - Particle Count using Resonant Mass Measurement

Published on 9 May 2014

Malvern Instruments' Archimedes is a new, highly innovative instrument which uses the technique of resonant mass measurement to detect and accurately count particles (particle concentration) in the size range 50nm - 5µm, and reliably measure their buoyant mass, dry mass and size. Particularly useful for the detection and protein characterization, including protein aggregates in formulation or buffer,
Archimedes is also able to distinguish between proteinaceous material and contaminants such as silicone oil by means of comparing their relative resonant frequencies and buoyant masses.

Principles of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

Published on 2 Nov 2015

Learn about the principles of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is a technique for understanding the stability of proteins and other biomolecules. It has wide application in protein engineering, rational drug design and biopharmaceutical production, where developing stable proteins is a critical goal.

MicroCal DSC microcalorimeters are powerful analytical tools for characterizing the stability of proteins and other biomolecules, requiring minimal assay development, no labelling or immobilization. The automation and high sensitivity afforded by MicroCal VP-Capillary DSC systems permits screening of large numbers of samples at low concentrations minimizing the consumption of valuable samples with little hands-on effort.
